According to The Mirror, Manchester United are keeping tabs on PSV Eindhoven winger Steven Bergwijn.
What’s the story?
Bayern Munich, Liverpool and Inter Milan are also apparently interested in securing the 21-year-old’s services, as per the aforementioned report.
The 3-cap Netherlands international has certainly been in fine form so far this season. According to Transfermarkt’s stats, the left-winger has racked up nine goals and eight assists in seventeen Eredivisie outings.
Who is your club’s worst ever January signing? The Pl>ymaker FC squad have picked theirs in the video below and they didn’t disappoint…
It is unsurprising then that the young winger is attracting plenty of attention from some of Europe’s biggest club’s. The Red Devils would be wise to do all they can to bring him to Old Trafford.
For life after Alexis
United are presently well-stocked for wingers. However, Marcus Rashford is currently proving himself to be a fine centre-forward, whilst Juan Mata’s contract with the club is set to expire at the end of this season (Manchester Evening News), meaning that they may need to invest in this area of the pitch soon.
What’s more, Alexis Sanchez has failed to shine since his January 2018 arrival from Arsenal (BBC). Now 30-years-old, United may already be looking towards landing a long-term replacement for the Chilean.
Bergwijn has all the requisite attributes to shine in the Premier League, and his pace and power making him an ideal fit for the brand of counterattacking football often showcased at Old Trafford.
If interim manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could lure Bergwijn to Old Trafford, then such a signing would make for a fine legacy of his time in charge of United.
