Arsenal’s pursuit of Valencia centre-back Cristhian Mosquera has hit an early snag after the Spanish club reportedly dismissed the Gunners’ opening bid. According to Radio Marca Valencia, the La Liga outfit have already turned down an offer that fell short of their €20 million (£17m/$23.5m) asking price for the highly-rated 21-year-old.

However, Arsenal appear to have made significant progress with Mosquera himself. Reports from both the UK and Spain claim that personal terms between the defender and the Premier League side have already been agreed. The player is said to be keen on a switch to north London and has grown uncertain about continuing his development at the Mestalla.

Valencia have not yet tabled a formal renewal proposal for Mosquera, whose existing contract runs out next summer. Their refusal to meet his contractual demands or provide clarity on his future has reportedly left the door open for Arsenal to swoop in.
DID YOU KNOW?
One factor in the negotiations is the presence of a €20 million release clause in Mosquera’s contract, which Valencia insist must be met by any potential suitor. Arsenal, however, are attempting to strike a deal slightly below the release figure, ideally by structuring payments over time rather than paying the full sum upfront. The Gunners are hopeful that the player's willingness to join them will increase their leverage, but Valencia are showing no signs of budging just yet.

Arsenal are not alone in their admiration for the commanding centre-back. Premier League rivals Liverpool and Manchester City have also been monitoring Mosquera’s development, according to who first linked Arsenal with the player back in November. Scouts from all three clubs have watched the player extensively over the past year, impressed by his physicality, composure on the ball, and maturity beyond his years. Given that interest is only likely to increase as the transfer window progresses, Arsenal may feel a sense of urgency to return with an improved offer sooner rather than later.
