AZ Alkmaar striker Vincent Janssen has revealed that he is “really close” to joining Spurs and that he’s excited about his seemingly imminent move.
The Netherlands international has been heavily aligned with the London club in recent weeks, and reports emanating from his homeland over the last 24 hours have revealed that a deal worth around £17m is virtually done, with the player ready to travel for a medical.

Janssen enjoyed a stellar season with AZ in 2015/16, netting 27 league goals while earning a spot in the Oranje squad – he scored against England at Wembley in a pre-EURO 2016 friendly.
And now he’s revealed that he expects his move to Spurs to go through soon, claiming that he won’t be training with his current club as he waits for the green light.
“I won’t train with AZ anymore,” he told Algemeen Dagblad. “The clubs are now really close to an agreement. I will go home and wait for the phone call to go.
“I’m glad that it is almost complete. For me, it was clear from the beginning that I wanted to go to Spurs. The competition appeals to me and the plan of the coach is similar to the plan that AZ boss John van den Brom shared with me a year ago at AZ.
“It is a beautiful club with a fantastic stadium and heaps of potential. Anyone in my shoes would take this step.”
Janssen is expected to support Harry Kane at Spurs, with the Englishman having been the club’s only orthodox striker for much of the last 24 months.
However, he claims that he’s not afraid of the competition he faces for game time from the White Hart Lane favourite:
“Harry Kane? People can say what they want but I’m not afraid of anybody. He is a great striker but we will see how it goes. We can complement each other, I think I can learn a lot from him.”
