After finishing second in the Premier League last season, Arsenal have already spent a hefty fee of £30m to secure the services of Swiss midfielder Grant Xhaka.
The Gunners benefitted from a tight backline last term that should continue to stifle the opposition, with Peter Cech continuing to operate between the sticks. Cech made 34 appearances in the Premier League in his first season under Arsene Wenger, and looked assured throughout.
Wenger is looking to obtain some more firepower up front to compliment Alexis Sanchez, while a wide midfielder would not go amiss.
Wenger has made it well known that he is looking for a striker as well as a centre back this summer, too, so it should be a busy few months.
Here are SEVEN players Arsenal would be mad not to sign this summer…
Jamie Vardy
One player the Gunners are keen to acquire is Vardy, who became England’s darling with his play for Leicester City in 2015/16. Vardy finished second in the Premier League’s scoring charts with 24 goals, just one strike behind Tottenham’s Harry Kane.
Vardy, 29, is expected to be a key facet in England’s five-prong attack in the EUROs. The pacey forward could help stretch defenders should Arsenal be able to gain his services.
Riyad Mahrez
Another Leicester City attacker that Arsenal should look at bringing to London is Riyad Mahrez. The Algeria international scored 17 goals while chipping in 10 assists on the way to the Foxes becoming English champions.
Mahrez, who operates primarily out on the right wing, is valued at £15m. His 17 goals would have led Arsenal last season, who were paced by Giroud’s 16 tallies.
After moving to the Premier League two and a half years ago, the France native has improved each year while playing in England. If Vardy is brought on board, could Mahrez follow? The two were able to link up on multiple occasions en route to Leicester City’s title, leading to career best years for both.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan
Another target on the right wing is Borussia Dortmund playmaker Henrikh Mkhitaryan. Mkhitaryan has been with the German club since the summer of 2013, and he has one more year left on his contract, but at the moment his value has never been higher.
A creative midfielder with superb vision, he netted 23 goals and 32 assists over the full year just gone in 52 appearances. Within the Bundesliga, Mkhitaryan notched 20 assists, which led the way in the German league.
Ricardo Rodríguez
Another target from Bundesliga is left back Ricardo Rodríguez. Rodríguez has been one of Switzerland’s best defenders and is familiar with Arsenal’s first transfer grab, Xhaka. Rodríguez has made 36 appearances at international level, his first coming at the age of 19.
Rodríguez, 23, has been an integral piece of Wolfsburg’s backline for four years now. He made 24 appearances in the Bundesliga and nine in the Champions League last season, and the Zurich native totalled three goals and four assists.
Álvaro Morata
Widely mooted as Arsenal’s top target from the striker position, Morata has won two Italian titles with Juventus since joining the Old Lady two seasons ago. Morata, 23, is a centre forward that could make a significant impact on Arsenal’s goalscoring prowess.
The Spain international notched seven goals and eight assists in 34 appearances in the Serie A last season, and he also scored three goals in five Copa Italia matches.
Morata has work-rate and pace, as well as clinical finishing ability.

Kalidou Koulibaly
Koulibaly just finished his second season with Napoli, shining in the process. The centre back cost Napoli a £5.8m in 2014, and his market value currently sits at £15m.
The Senegal international is an astute passer and totaled two goals in 42 total appearances this past season.

Maximiliano Romero
Romero, 17, is a youngster that has been linked to Arsenal. He was almost brought along last year, but a heartbreaking knee ligament injury led to the deal falling through.
A well-rounded striker with plenty of potential, Romero currently plies his trade Club Atletico Velez Sarsfield in Argentina’s first league. The Argentina international made seven appearances in the Primera division, scoring two goals.
