According to TeamTalk, Leeds United are interested in signing Bristol City midfielder Josh Brownhill in the January transfer window.
What’s the story?
Brownhill joined Bristol City from Preston North End in the summer of 2016, and the 21-year-old has developed into a key player for the Robins.
The defensive midfielder has scored three times and provided two assists in 19 Championship appearances this season, whilst he has also featured on three occasions in the EFL Cup.
According to TeamTalk, Leeds are firm admirers of the Englishman, although the Championship outfit may well face competition from the likes of Newcastle United, Leicester City, Bournemouth and Burnley.
Brownhill’s current deal at Ashton Gate will expire at the end of this season, but it is understood that Bristol City are working to convince the midfielder to pen fresh terms.
What are Brownhill’s credentials?
Brownhill certainly has pedigree having turned out for Manchester United during his youth career, but the midfielder was released from the Red Devils in 2012.
He later joined Preston North End, and went on to make 64 first-team appearances at Deepdale before joining Bristol City on a free transfer in the summer of 2016.
Brownhill’s performances have gone from strength to strength this season, and it is not a surprise that a number of Premier League clubs, in addition to Leeds, are closely watching his contract situation at Bristol City.
At the age of 21, the midfielder is not even close to being in his prime, and has already shown that he is more than capable of operating at this level of football.
Leeds are in need of fresh blood as they look to stay in and around the Championship playoffs, and the January arrival of Brownhill would be a major boost.
