Manchester United fans have taken to Twitter to react after they heard Nemanja Matic’s comments.
The 48-cap Serbia international spoke to BBC Radio 5 Live (via The Manchester Evening News) about how the Red Devils should be aiming for the Premier League title instead of feeling satisfied with their current position – they sit fifth and are just three points off the Champions League positions.
He did, however, conceded that winning a trophy and finishing in the top four would be considered a successful season – despite that, it feels as if the former Benfica and Chelsea man is setting his sights higher than that for the future, though.
Matic’s ambition is good to see, although he and the rest of the Manchester United squad need to stay realistic.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men find themselves 37 points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool, and are also 15 points off second-placed Manchester City – the same amount of points as they are off the relegation zone.
Let’s see how the Manchester United fans on Twitter reacted to Matic’s comments…
To kick off the reaction, these two supporters highlighted Matic’s mentality as a positive.
In truth, the Serb is currently one of the club’s most decorated players, having won the Premier League title with Chelsea on two occasions, as well as the FA Cup while also finishing in the PFA Team of the Year in 2015.
Elsewhere, Egaal said that Matic deserves the armband more than Harry Maguire – in terms of experience and winning mentality, the Serbian midfielder puts the former Sheffield United and Hull man to shame as Maguire has no major honours to his name, so perhaps Egaal has a point.

Lastly, Pogbesque thinks that the 31-year-old’s comments will see him dropped for the next game and for fixtures beyond that – there is no reason why Solskjaer would do that and should do that, for Matic was arguably amongst United’s best performers against Everton on Sunday, hitting the crossbar in the first-half of that 1-1 draw.
